Working with froglife to renovate ponds.

ree

We are excited to be working with Froglife to renovate 2 ponds in The Sir Joseph Banks Park by Jenny's Wood. Since being established these ponds have become overgrown and no longer provide a good habitat for amphibians. Froglife are using their skills and resources to help us remedy this.

In the next few weeks the ponds will be being restored to complement the

surrounding habitat and create suitable breeding conditions for amphibians.

The ponds will be cleared at one end leaving the vegetation in place at the other end, this

will open the ponds providing them with more sunlight to facilitate amphibian

breeding. Amphibians require warmer water to breed and for the spawn to

develop. Leaving the vegetation at one end of the pond will retain suitable habitat for

foraging and for invertebrates. Suitable spoil can be used to create a south

facing low bund on one side of the ponds for wildlife to bask in the sun.

Froglife will also be training volunteers to maintain the pond. If you would like to get involved please get in contact.
