It is now some eighteen months since 17,0000 trees and shrubs were planted to start creating Dion’s Wood Nature Reserve. In that time the volunteers have twice attended each tree to mulch with a barrow load of wood chip. This helps to suppress the weeds and retain moisture in the soil. This month has seen further action as every tree has been inspected and weeds cleared from the guards. Those found to have been attacked by the wildlife will have to be replaced in the autumn.
It is hard work weeding 30 acres by hand and extra volunteers are always welcome - many hands make light work!
